April Showers bring May Flowers….WRONG!!
Needless to say, the mixed bag of weather conditions this month made it hard to figure out what to wear each day. The warmer days were a welcome but the heat wave we had for a few days was a shock to the system. We had to turn on the air conditioning and close the blinds in the school at one point, then a drastic switch to dressing like we were coming to school in the end of September with rain, possible snow, and crazy winds. All we can say is BRING ON SUMMER!! Hahahaha
Putting our weather frustrations behind us, we still moved on through the month keeping busy.
Staff and students took a field trip to Brandon to watch the Mecca Production of MOANA. What a fantastic show. Everyone loved it, from the props to the actors, actresses, and the story itself (some people never saw the movie). One of our staff members who have been to a few of these productions throughout the years said this one was by far the best they had ever seen. Which says a lot because they are always sooo good. After the show, the school took a pitstop to have lunch at Dinsdale Park. Here students had the opportunity to eat then stretch their legs and play on the playground. It was a great morning.
After the long weekend the grade ¾ class went on their Field Trip to Riding Mountain National Park.
The UNESCO group went to Winnipeg to celebrate their year-end.
The following week started out a busy Monday with everyone going many different directions. The Grade 5 to 8 classes were headed south to Brandon Sportsplex to take part in the Annual Rolling River School Division Track and Field meet. Then Grades K to 2 were heading north to Riding Mountain National Park for their year end field trip. It was a beautiful day for both events. The grade 5 to 8 students did a great job competing at track and field. Some ribbons were won, great sportsmanship was observed from each school participating, and everyone had a great time.
K to 2 Field Trip was a busy day filled with fun. It started with a scavenger hunt created by George from Friends of the Park. We broke up into groups and had to follow a map to locate the clues. We learned about different animals and plants/trees that you can find in the park. Then we took a walk along the pier to eat up a little time before we broke for lunch at 1929. Students had a quick tour behind the scenes of the kitchen and storage areas before enjoying either a mini pizza or mini hamburger and fries. With bellies full, we were off on a hike down the south trail, took a break, skipped some rocks, then headed back to enjoy some ice cream at the Boardwalk and some downtime at the playground.
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Mr. Stephenson for organizing another very successful Jump Rope for Heart Day. On May 30th in the morning students and staff gathered in their Spirit Groups and split into different stations. Jump Rope for Heart brings awareness and the importance of creating healthy habits and choices to help create a healthy life. We are happy to report that Onanole School raised $1020 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The money raised helps fund medical and life saving research. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who participated and/or donated for this very important cause.
