December's Itinerary

December Events

As I ripped off the month of November to reveal December on my desk calendar, a rush of huge emotions took over me looking at the three weeks left till we break for the holidays.  I guess I could say a sense of panic began to rain down on me.  Isn’t it funny how seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks are counted down to one of the most exciting times of the year.  But, as I take a deep breath and count to 10, I begin to refocus on the fun this month had to offer.

The Onanole Wild Volleyball team placed second in the RRSD tournament held in Minnedosa on Thurs, Dec 5th.  “They played really hard and were an excellent representation of our school.” exclaimed Mrs. Krahn, their proud coach!!  A big thank you to Mrs. Krahn and Mrs. Clark for all the wonderful practices which enhanced their skills and confidence that equaled a second-place result!! Way to Go Wild!!!

The Onanole Parent Group put on another delicious luncheon on December 6th. The Turkey Lunch is an annual fundraiser that the parent group has been putting on for many years.  Students and staff went to feast on all the fixings before it was open to the public. It was open to the public from noon to one o’clock serving up a plate full of goodness for only $15 which included a beverage and dessert.  Thank you to the parent group, everyone who either cooked a turkey or donated a food item/bev, and all the parent volunteers.  This is a huge undertaking and everything you do for our school is always greatly appreciated.

To bring a little fun into our building the staff pulled off their own secret spirit week to see if students would notice.  It was fun to spend the week doing something different each day.  Students noticed and comment then looked forward to guessing what we were doing each day the week of the 9th to 13th.

In addition to our secret spirit week the Student Council planned a fun and busy Spirit Week for the school the week of the 16th to 20th.

Monday-Festive Holiday Wear

Tuesday- Class Color Day

Wednesday- Jersey Day

Thursday- Crazy Hair Day

Friday- PJ Day

Piled as well into this week the students put on a well performed Musical Infestation…. A Bugs Christmas! The story started out with a buzz of excitement until those darn termites ate the Christmas tree decorations and lights!!  They WERE HUNGRY! What will they do!!  The costumes created and put together by Miss. Silverthorn were so cute it was easy for us to fly into their world.  The songs led by Mrs. Ryznar made you want to sway and wiggle to the music that the students sang beautifully too. The grade 7/8 class did their own rendition of HOME ALONE and a visitor from our special guest…SANTA, made the night complete. What a great evening.

The next day was a buzz (sticking to our theme-ha) of excitement. It was the students Kids Can Shop Day! Students had the opportunity to shop for their immediate families for just $5. This event is so wonderful to watch how they shop for the people they love. They think hard about what their families’ interests are and pick the item of choice with all their heart.  Not only are they purchasing gifts for their loved ones, but the money also raised from this event will be going to our local Christmas Cheer. We are happy to announce that we raised $235.00.  It is better to give than receive and we believe this is a great way to do just that.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank families and community members who donated to our Kids Can Shop this year.

In closing, the last day of classes were spent in our PJ’s finishing on some little tasks and having a bit of fun in the afternoon.

On behalf of everyone here at Onanole School, we wish one and all a safe and festive holiday season. May the days be filled with hot chocolate, good conversations, a bit of fun and relaxation.

Classes resume January 6th, 2025.
