November is a time to Remember
On November 6th, Onanole School welcomed the Erickson Legion members and guests to our Remembrance Day Service. As they entered our gym, Grade ½ students handed them an origami paper crane. Mrs. Silverthorn taught students from 1 to 8 the step-by-step folds to make the paper cranes. There were approximately 150 made which symbolized the story of Sadako Sasaki, performed by the grade 5/6 class. This is a true story about a little girl who was diagnosed with Leukemia from the radiation she received from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. A friend of Sadako suggested she fold 1000 paper cranes. It’s Japanese legend that for the person who does so they will be granted one wish. Her wish was peace and hope for all those in the world. Poems were also read by students in grades 5/6, In Flanders Fields and In Flanders Now. The grade ¾ class read A Poppy is to Remember, and the Grade K to 2 Choir sang, Poppies Red. In closing students took part in the Poppy Procession, God Save the King was played, and then the Color Party Marched out. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Archie Campbell and his fellow legion members along with Sgt Dave Porter for attending our service and being an intricate part of it.
Onanole School had their annual bookfair this month. First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers, the grade 7/8 class for helping to create a fun and successful fair and to all those who came shopping. We unfortunately had to close a couple days due to the weather and had to ask for an extension, but in the same breath we made a touch over $800 in rewards for our school. The library purchased some books from the bookfair using these rewards, so we have new adventures and learning resources for our students. Aso, we would like to thank the parent group for purchasing some books from the classroom wish list bins. The support this community and surrounding communities show our school is greatly appreciated and strongly acknowledged. It takes a village and more!!!!! THANK YOU. We did have a few door prizes during the fair and we would like to congratulate Meadow Smid on winning the Axolotl package, Mr. Gordon Allen who won the Books are My Jam package, and congratulations to Mya whose name was drawn from the Family Event Night. Mya won $25 worth of books for her family library and $25 for Mr. Stephenson and the class library. In closing thank you to Marg Tarleton and Holly Lewis for helping me back up the remaining bookfair.
Our Jr. High Wild Volleyball team, coached by Miss. Krahn and Mrs. Clark, have been busy practicing and taking part in a few exhibition games this month. They are gearing up to take part in the tournament on December the 5th in Minnedosa. We wish them all the best at this event!!
Last but certainly not least Pippa the Therapy Dog made her first visit to Onanole School the last week of November. She will be spending time in our school to help where she is needed. Mrs. Clark took her to all the classes to introduce her. We are all happy she is a new member of our team!! WELCOME PIPPA!
