Remembrance Day Service at OES
Erickson Legion Color Party

Halloween celebrations came to an end and the transition into November came as quick as the turn of a page in a book it seemed.

On the afternoon of November 7th, the Erickson Legion Branch #143 Color party and members, Sgt. Dave Porter joined staff, students, and families here at OES to honor those who fought in the war.  It was a very lovely service which opened with the color party lead by Mr. Nigel Kerr then followed had a variety of traditional poems read by students including In Flanders Field-, a dance performance by Miss Krahn’s student dance club, and a beautiful song from Mrs. Ryznar’s K-4 choir.   Students also took part in the poppy procession.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members/color party of the Erickson Legion, students, and staff for such a beautiful service.

Within the week of November 17th to the 21st, the bookfair along with Parent/Family/Teacher Interviews took place.

The Bookfair had a great selection of books and gift ideas for families and community members to choose from.  I would like to take the opportunity to thank my parent/staff/community volunteers:  Ludivine Morrison, Heather Allen, Gwen and Meadow Smid, Marg Tarleton, Cathy Sansom, Caitlyn Clark, and Mr. Stephenson.  Having the extra hands to set up/take down and volunteer is greatly appreciated.
The Bookfair was a great opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done, or just buy a new book to read, but most importantly it is a great event which the school can earn rewards to purchase educational supplies or books for our classrooms.  There is nothing better than a book in a child’s hand.

We make a percentage from the sales in rewards.  This year our sales were around the $2600 range, minus shipping and taxes put us around $2400.  We were happy to be able to purchase books from the fair itself for the library and have rewards left over for future purchases that the teachers may need in their classrooms.  THANK YOU for your support!!

The teachers would like to thank all the families that were able to attend Parent/ Family/Teacher Interviews on the 20th and 21st of November.  They were happy to share what their child's has been accomplishing over the last few months and look forward to the next.  Their progress will be shared again at the next P/F/T interviews which will be in March.

To end the month on a fun note, Miss Krahn and Mrs. Clark rallied together to host a MOVIE NIGHT at the school.  It was a fun and successful event.  Students enjoyed the two movie choices, Lilo and Stitch for the younger crowd and Wicked for the higher grades.  Students had the opportunity to purchase a Hot Dog snack and popcorn for this event.  All monies raised from the food sales are being put towards the K/3/4 Field Trips this year.

The Here is some feedback from some of the kids who came to the event.

What did you like the most about it?”:

Axel: “I really liked the popcorn. It was so good!”

Brody: “The hot dogs were really good.”

Joni: “I liked a part in the Lilo and Stitch movie that made me laugh.”

Cai: “I liked watching the movie with my friends.”

Haven and Meadow said the same thing: “It was a fun night, cozy, enjoyed hanging out with our friends.  It was also cool to hang out at the school after school hours doing something like this.”

A BIG thank you to Mrs. Clark and Miss Krahn for all the prep, planning, and supervising this event.  It was a hit.
